For everyday spills, a soft cloth is usually all that's required. If a more stubborn mark remains, use a cleaner specifically formulated for LVT flooring, following the manufacturer's guidance.
Lift Furniture Rather Than Dragging It
Despite LVT flooring’s resistance to scratching and its durability, heavy furniture can still do damage when dragged across the flooring. If you’re moving tables, sofas, shelves, or anything solid across your floor, it’s important to pick the item up and move it rather than dragging it.
Any households with lots of large, solid furniture may want to consider using felt pads beneath the legs. These simply slide under the legs of the furniture, reducing the pressure directly on the LVT itself. This can reduce the risk of dents and scratches from the furniture as it moves or is used, keeping your LVT in prime condition.
Special Cleaning Products
Just as with hardwood flooring, LVT requires specialised products when it comes to cleaning. You wouldn’t use metal cleaning products on wooden flooring, and the same goes for using just anything on LVT.
When cleaning your LVT flooring, one of the best products to invest in is microfibre cloths or a microfibre mop. These are gentle and soft, and completely non-abrasive, helping to prevent any damage being done to the tiles. Microfibre mops are also good for LVT flooring because they don’t take in too much moisture, unlike typical mops. LVT flooring is waterproof, but the adhesive that sticks it down is not, and in some cases, too much water can affect the adhesive.
The cleaning product you use is also important. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners unless they are specifically recommended for LVT. Before using any new product, test it on an inconspicuous area or an offcut to ensure compatibility.
